Sonic.net provides domain name registration services to its
customers. You can register new domain names or transfer existing
domains away from a current registrar (like Network Solutions).
Network Solutions is NOT the only Option (a little history):
Things changed radically in 1999 with the introduction of
competition at the registrar level in the .com/.net/.org namespace and
with it the advent of the SRS (Shared Registry System). ICANN (The
Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) set up shop to
succeed the IANA and began accrediting other registrars. After a
period of holding out and refusing to sign the ICANN registrar
accreditation agreement, Network Solutions finally did so and now competes
with other registrars. The monopoly has ended and that is a good
thing for all consumers.
Registering new domain names through Sonic.net:
You can register new domain names using Sonic's
Domain Tool. When registering new domains, Sonic.net will be
the initial Technical Contact and Sonic Name Servers will service the
Domain Name.
Because Sonic name servers will be used to provide domain name
information to the world, we require the purchase of DNS
service ($1.95/month) for each new domain name registration.
If you have your own name servers or would like to use name servers other
than Sonic's, you can update the domain's name server records and
drop the DNS service after the domain
registration is complete.

During the registration process, you will be given the option to
purchase Multi-Homed
Web Hosting service for your new domain name. A
Multi-Homed web site receives a dedicated IP address and your web
pages are served off of our redundantly configured and load-balanced
web servers providing a reliable, high speed hosting solution. |
