ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) provides a digital connection instead of analog. This routed service requires an ISDN router, Local area network (LAN) and ISDN service from Pacific Bell.

Example applications include: LAN with users running Netscape, Mosaic, Eudora. Up to sixty-four devices on the LAN may be connected to the router with this type of account. The amount of connected machines will depend on the service that you purchase. The number of devices is the same as the number of the subnet minus two, so for example, a 16 address subnet can support 14 PCs.

Sonic can recommend ISDN equipment and assist you with ordering your line. We can also recommend local vendors who can provide equipment and complete the installation for you.

Each of the individual email accounts is only able to connect via the routed ISDN connection. These accounts are not capable of dialup analog connections. If you wish to dial in from any another site other than the LAN, such as at home then you will have to also have the standard dialup PPP or shell account.

Please note that three IP addresses are reserved for network, gateway, and broadcast. For instance if you get 8 IP addresses, you can hook 5 computers up.
