1) How does it work?
Broadlink Wireless DSL (WDSL) is a radio-based point-to-multipoint wireless broadband
connection, comparable in speed and price to DSL or cable service.
2) How long does it take to get up and running?
Currently from 4 to 5 weeks from the date of order submittal.
We expect this timeline to get much faster as the product matures, and our
goal timeline is 5-10 working days.
3) What do I need?
You'll need a computer with an open PCI slot or a 10Base-T -
RJ45 Ethernet card and an internet access account with Sonic.net, Inc.
We'll provide the network card, the customer premise
equipment.
4) How different is it from PacBell DSL?
From the user perspective, the service itself will be very
similar - comparable speed and price. However, Broadlink WDSL avoids the
need for telephone cable, which means faster installation and much better
availability.
In addition, the WDSL end-user equipment includes Network Address
Translation, which means that you can share your access with multiple
computers at your location.
Network Address Translation means that your computer will not be directly
accessible from the Internet, which protects you from many kinds of Internet
attacks. However, it also precludes the use of some applications. For
details on these limitations, see Broadlink's NAT issues and
workarounds page.
5) Network Interface Card / is it provided?
Currently, we do not provide network cards.
6) Is it secure?
The customer premise equipment includes NAT firewalling, which
will protect your computer from access from the Internet.
The radio network uses MAC layer-2 filtering to prevent customers from
evesdropping on each other, and spread spectrum frequency hopping to avoid
signal interception.
